Quick Answer

Can Ayurveda help migraine and stress?

Ayurveda treats recurring migraine (Ardhavabhedaka) and stress as an imbalance of Vata and Pitta affecting the head and nervous system. Treatment combines therapies such as Shirodhara and Nasyam, herbal medicines, and a steady routine for meals and sleep. The aim is fewer, milder headaches, calmer days and better sleep - alongside any medicine you already take.

A migraine is not just a bad headache. It is a throbbing pain, often on one side, that can come with nausea, sensitivity to light and noise, and a need to lie down in a dark room. Some people see flashing lights before it starts. Many patients lose a day or more to each attack.

Stress, poor sleep and headaches usually travel together. You sleep badly, so you are more stressed; you are stressed, so the headaches come more often. Painkillers help in the moment, but taking them too often can itself cause more headaches.

Ayurveda calls the one-sided headache Ardhavabhedaka and links it, along with anxiety and insomnia, to aggravated Vata and Pitta. Treatment calms the nervous system, fixes the daily rhythm, and removes the triggers that keep the cycle going.

Routine (Dinacharya)

Regular meal times, a fixed sleep time, less screen time at night and simple breathing practice - the base that makes every other treatment work.
