Lower Back Pain
Ease the ache, balance your body, move freely again - naturally.
- Orthopaedic
Back pain rarely appears suddenly - it builds slowly over time as the spine carries the weight of daily life: heavy lifting done incorrectly, long hours sitting, slumped posture ("phone neck," "desk hunch"), sudden falls or twists, weak core muscles, and stress-related muscle tension. The lower back is affected most, carrying close to 80% of the body's weight when bending forward.
In Ayurveda, back pain relates to a Vata dosha imbalance - Vata governs movement, blood flow, and nerve signals, and is thrown off by irregular schedules, poor digestion, cold food and drink, overwork, and inadequate sleep. The resulting condition is described as 'Katigraha' - a gripping, vice-like tightness in the lower back. Weak digestion also allows Ama (toxins) to settle in the lower back, contributing to inflammation and rigidity in the bone tissue (Asthi Dhatu).
Common Symptoms
-
Muscles that feel stiff and rigid
-
Dry, poorly lubricated joints
-
Sharp, shooting pain radiating down one or both legs
-
Tingling or pins-and-needles sensations that disturb sleep
How We Treat Lower Back Pain
Herbal Oils & Massage (Abhyanga)
Warm Mahanarayan Taila massage - the oil must stay warm, since cold oil worsens Vata.

Ashwagandha (builds muscle strength and cuts stress), Shallaki/Boswellia (gently reduces swelling), and Guggulu (helps clear toxins and fortifies weak joints).
Kati Vasti
A dough ring is formed on the lower back and filled with warm medicated oil, held for at least 30 minutes.
