About Dr. Abrol

Abhyangam is one of the ancient methods of massage that originated in Ayurveda. It uses warm medicated oil which will help in healing the overall health including our mind and spirit. It can help your body get rid of all the ama or toxins from the body. In this massage, an ample amount of warm oil is applied to the entire body combined with massage strokes that follow the direction of the movement of arterial blood. As per the ancient Brhat Trayi and Laghu Trayi texts in Ayurveda, Abhyangam is among the daily practices one must follow for well-being and health.

Abhyangam is an essential part of Panchakarma therapy, which consists of a five-step Ayurvedic detoxification process. Commonly this is Purva Karma before its major cleansing procedures such as Vamana (emesis), Virechana (purgation), Basti (medicated enema), Nasya (nasal therapy), or Raktamokshana (bloodletting). This massage method stimulates circulation, mobilizes toxins, and helps loosen deep-seated impurities in the tissues, making them easier to eliminate during the detoxification process.

This therapy also helps to balance the doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha) and relaxes the nervous system, which enhances the effectiveness of Panchakarma treatments.

Abhyangam is one of the popular treatments at our Panchakarma Centre in Amritsar, where skilled therapists use authentic herbal oils customised for individual body types. Many individuals also choose to combine Abhyangam with Shirodhara treatment, in which a steady stream of warm herbal oil is poured over the forehead, further enhancing mental clarity and relaxation.

Common Questions

Abhyangam - Frequently Asked Questions

Dr. Abrol reviews your full medical history and current medication before recommending Abhyangam or any Panchakarma therapy, and coordinates your care alongside your existing treatment where appropriate.

This varies by condition and your body constitution (Prakriti). Dr. Abrol recommends a personalised course length after your first consultation.

The therapy itself requires an in-clinic visit, but international and NRI patients can have their initial consultation and treatment plan prepared online before travelling in for sessions.
